What img-tools is
img-tools is a privacy-first, browser-based image toolkit. It bundles dozens of everyday tools — compress, convert, resize, crop, rotate, watermark, remove EXIF metadata, generate favicons, and AI-powered background removal, upscaling, and smart cropping — into one fast website with nothing to install.
Every tool works the same way: you open a page, drop in an image, and the work happens immediately in your browser tab. There are no accounts, no waiting in a queue, and no watermarks added to your results.
How it works — your files never leave your device
Traditional online image tools upload your file to a remote server, process it there, and send it back. img-tools does the opposite: the processing code runs locally using standard web technologies — the Canvas API, WebGL, and WebAssembly — directly on your device's CPU and GPU.
Because the computation happens in your browser, your images never travel across the internet and we never receive, store, or even see them. You can confirm this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and run any tool — no image is ever uploaded.
AI tools (background removal, upscaling, object detection) download a one-time model file to your browser cache the first time you use them, then run fully offline. The model processes your image locally; the image itself is never sent anywhere.
Free, forever
Every tool on img-tools is 100% free, with no paid tier, no trial, no sign-up, and no per-file or file-size paywall. We keep the lights on with unobtrusive advertising rather than by charging you or selling data about your images — because we never have your images in the first place.
There is no premium upsell waiting to lock features behind a subscription. The full toolset is available to everyone, in 33 languages.
Who it's for
img-tools is built for anyone who needs to fix an image quickly without risking their privacy: designers and developers preparing assets, people compressing photos for email or the web, anyone stripping location metadata before sharing a picture, and anyone handling confidential or sensitive images that should never touch a third-party server.
Because it runs offline once loaded, it also works on flaky connections, on locked-down networks, and on documents you simply cannot upload for legal or compliance reasons.
Our principles
Privacy by architecture, not by promise. The zero-upload guarantee comes from how the software is built, not from a policy you have to trust.
Free and open access. No paywalls, no accounts, no dark patterns.
Honesty. We describe exactly what the tools do and do not do, and we never overstate our claims.
